The following message is from Albany High School Principal Jodi Commerford:
I am writing to provide more information about the circumstances that led to the brief lockout we put in place early Monday afternoon.
At about noon Monday, two of our students were assaulted outside the Abrookin Career and Technical Center as they were preparing to enter. As the students were getting out of a vehicle near the Abrookin entrance, another vehicle pulled up nearby and at least one person got out of that vehicle and engaged in a physical altercation with our students.
The students suffered non-life-threatening stab wounds and were transported to Albany Medical Center for treatment.
The Albany Police Department is investigating and we are cooperating with the police.
The safety of everyone in our school community and throughout the City School District of Albany is a top priority. Please remind your students that they are safe and supported in reporting any information that makes them feel scared or uncomfortable.
If they see something, they should tell a trusted adult immediately. It is critically important to all that we do as a school district, and in partnership with law enforcement officials, to provide a safe learning environment.
