Exploring the world: a taste of Afghanistan at Albany High's International Club

Student presenters at International Club gathering

At Albany High, our school community thrives on its rich diversity, and one vibrant avenue for students to explore the various cultures represented is through the International Club. The club meets every Wednesday from 3:30 to 4:30 in room 2235.

This week, club members Zeinab Gholammohammad, Zohreh Gholammohammad, Ghazal Gholammohammad, Nisa Polatoglu, and Hamed Ozbek led an engaging presentation about Afghanistan. They showcased a captivating slide deck that highlighted maps, national dishes, traditional clothing, and cultural dances, followed by a delicious tasting session featuring Afghan kabuli palaw, a delightful rice dish, and Afghan salat, a refreshing vegetable dish. The flavors were truly exceptional!

Throughout this academic year, students have had the opportunity to learn about various countries and their cultures, including Myanmar and Bangladesh. Our Falcons have enjoyed exploring foreign currencies and participating in games from different cultures. In next week’s gathering, we will delve into one of the indigenous cultures from the Northeast.

With around forty students attending this week’s session on Afghanistan, club adviser Tara Burke warmly invites any Falcons who are interested in joining to come and discover more about the world with us!
