Falcons fighting cancer

Raveendranath and VanAmburgh

When Albany High students Maya Raveendranath and Audrey VanAmburgh were invited to serve as student visionaries for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, they answered the call to raise life-changing donations for patient support.

The Student Visionaries of the Year is a philanthropic leadership development program for high school students across the country, which involves running a 7-week fundraising campaign with the goal of moving towards a world without blood cancers.

Raveendranath and VanAmburgh joined forces to create Team Resilience, setting a challenging goal of securing $10,000 in donations for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society by Thursday, March 6. As of Feb. 24, Team Resilience has raised $4,559.48 through their advocacy and events!

For Raveendranath, seeing a close family member be diagnosed with cancer has motivated her commitment to the cause. Currently her grandmother is going through cancer treatments, so she understands on a personal level how important it is to support organizations dedicated to funding research and providing education and support for patients and families.

Raveendranath and VanAmburgh have partnered with several local businesses for their fundraising campaign, showing the power of community collaboration.
