Celebrating Black History Month at Abrookin

Student presenter with Abrookin principal, Shermaine Moore-Boakye

On Wednesday, our Albany High students participated in a vibrant celebration of Black History Month at the Abrookin Career and Technical Education Center.

The festivities featured singing, drumming, step dancing, the presentation of writing awards, and an engaging performance by a local re-enactor who brought Shirley Chisholm to life. This inspiring portrayal reminded students of the importance of perseverance in the pursuit of justice and equity.

Students also had the opportunity to view a replica quilt showcasing significant symbols used on the Underground Railroad. Engaging classroom activities further enriched their understanding of this fascinating tool that aided many Black men, women and children in their quest for freedom.

Join us tonight, Feb 28,  for our Black History Month Celebration at Albany High, open to students, faculty, families, and community members.
