Scott Thompson will become assistant principal at Tony Clement Center for Education on July 1.
The City School District of Albany Board of Education approved Thompson’s transfer at its meeting Thursday.
Thomas is a former assistant principal at Stephen and Harriet Myers Middle School, where he served from 2019-21. His position was among the 215.6 positions the district reduced in September when faced with the possibility of a 20% reduction in state aid due to the COVID-19 economic crisis.
The district hired back Thompson as assistant principal at Philip Schuyler Achievement Academy. His return was part of a district-wide effort to restore student supports and staff positions across all grades.
Before joining the district, Thompson served as an assistant principal at Schenectady’s Central Park Middle School in 2018-19, following five years at KIPP Tech Valley Charter School in Albany, the last four years as the school’s principal.
He also served as an elementary teacher in Troy from 2004-13. He taught for two years at Albany’s now-closed New Covenant Charter School, and began his career in education as an integrated teaching assistant at Giffen Memorial Elementary School in 1999.
Thompson will replace Timitra Rose, who will transfer to an assistant principal position at New Scotland Elementary School.
