Dear Parents/Families of Dual Language Students:
I wanted to provide you with an update on the instructional model for the Dual Language Program in both the virtual and in-person settings.
As we shared with you during our reopening forums during the summer, we remain committed to maintaining the integrity of the Dual Language program by continuing to offer instruction in both Spanish and English. Given the challenge of accomplishing this across both settings with our limited number of Spanish-speaking staff, we considered several different configurations before arriving at what we believe to be the best possible solution in these circumstances.
Dual language instruction in the in-person environment will continue to be taught as it has been by a Bilingual Education certified teacher. Students will receive instruction in both Spanish and English.
In the virtual environment, Dual Language students have been assigned to grade-level classroom teachers who have been paired with a Bilingual Education certified teacher. In this model, students will receive grade-level instruction in English with a regular Spanish Language Arts component.
While the exact Dual Language model of the past could not be completely replicated under current circumstances, we are confident that our plan will result in continuity of learning in both languages for all Dual Language students.
Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions at 518-475-6750 or rstead@albany.k12.ny.us.
Sincerely,
Rachel Stead
