Stacy J. Dobbs, Ph.D., is the new principal of Delaware Community School.
The City School District of Albany Board of Education approved her appointment at its meeting on Thursday.
Dr. Dobbs spent 16 years in Erie County, Pa., starting as an elementary teacher in Erie Public Schools. After two years, she moved to Millcreek Township School District. There, she taught fifth and sixth grade before being promoted to a middle school assistant principal.
She later served as principal at two elementary schools in Millcreek Township for a total of six years before leaving to finish her doctorate at Gannon University. She spent the last year as an educational consultant at Capital Region BOCES.
Dr. Dobbs holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, a master’s degree in curriculum, instruction and assessment, and a doctorate in organizational learning and leadership, from Gannon. She also is certified as a school building leader in New York.
Dr. Dobbs replaces Rachel Stead, who became principal of Albany International Center on July 1. Dr. Dobbs will start at Delaware Community School on Friday.
