We embrace 'Computer Science Education Week'

Teacher and three students program a space rover robot

Dec. 4-8 was Computer Science Education Week, and Delaware Community School was all in!

Led by math interventionist and part-time tech coach Deb Whipple, first- through fifth-graders created their own Google logo and coded with “Code and Go Robot Mice,” “Space Rover Coding Activity Sets” and “Bee-Bot” bee robots.

They also had a live virtual session with NASA robotics technologist Kamak Ebadi and coded with their choice of Minecraft’s Hour of Code activities. In addition, fifth-graders went on Amazon’s Future Engineers Career Tour and learned how Amazon uses computer science, engineering and employees to fill orders.

Students and teachers will continue exploring computer science throughout the year with guidance from Whipple and the school’s Technology Team.
