On the farm in English and Spanish

Learning in two languages is the coolest!

Prekindergarteners in Ana Banda-Wemple and Norma Holmberg’s class in the Dual Language Program at O’Neal School of Excellence are learning about farm animals, and on Thursday they listened to then discussed “The Little Red Hen”/”La Gallinita Roja” in English and Spanish.

The students went on to different farm-themed learning centers around the classroom, where they created their own Little Red Hen out of a paper plate, identified whether a farm animal had two or four legs, counted tiny farm animals, played with “hay” made out of shredded paper and “grain” out of popcorn kernels, and much more – all the while conversing in English and Spanish.

The Dual Language Program is the district’s only bilingual elementary school program.
