Supervised virtual option for Dual Language K-5 students

City School District of Albany logo

The following message is from Edmund J. O'Neal School of Excellence Principal Rachel Stead:

Dear Dual Language Program Families,

Many of you have expressed a need for an option to bring your children to a City School District of Albany location to be supervised during this temporary period of time that they are engaged in virtual learning. We are happy to be able to provide families with this option on a space-available basis.

Beginning this Thursday, May 5, we can offer supervision for virtual learning at the Tony Clement Center for Education at 395 Elk St. Families would be responsible for transporting their children to and from the building.

This supervised virtual learning option would be available until our students are able to return to in-person instruction. We are continuing to investigate potential alternative locations for in-person learning and will have more information for you about that later this week.

Beginning Thursday, the supervised virtual learning schedule at Clement will be as follows:

  • 8:45 a.m.    Parent/guardian drop-off/Grab-and-go breakfast
  • 9:00 a.m.    Supervision of virtual instruction
  • 12:30 p.m.  Lunch/outdoor recess (lunch will be provided, outdoor recess is weather permitting)
  • 1:30 p.m.    Supervision of virtual instruction
  • 3:00 p.m.    Parent/guardian pick-up

Students will need to bring their Chromebook and headphones, along with any other necessary materials with them each day. Albany International Center and Dual Language Program staff will supervise students throughout the day.

Since space is limited, please fill out this form (available in both English and Spanish) to request a space. We will call families to confirm a spot in this temporary program.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to me with any questions at (518) 475-6600 or rstead@albany.k12.ny.us. We understand the impact that this temporary shift to virtual instruction has had on families and appreciate your patience and support during this time.

Sincerely,

Rachel Stead
Principal
