Celebrating Día de los Muertos!

Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, began Tuesday and ends Wednesday, and Dual Language Program pre-K teacher Yulissa Gomez created a special altar to educate her and other Edmund J. O’Neal School of Excellence students about the holiday.

Día de Muertos is a joyful Mexican holiday celebrating and honoring ancestors and other family members who have died.

Gomez, who is from Mexico, is pictured with her students. Also pictured are Family Engagement Coordinator Elizabeth Burciaga and Custodian Jesus Espinoza-Navarre, who both hail from Mexico, along with Albany International Center students from Mexico, Ecuador, Puerto Rico and Guatemala.

Although observed just after Halloween, Día de Muertos is a completely separate holiday.
