Celebrating Calabaza Day

Mother and child decorate pumpkin together

Take a look at some photos from Calabaza Day at the Dual Language Program!

The annual tradition in Ana Banda-Wemple’s pre-K class–and now Yulissa Gomez’s pre-K class as well–celebrates the seasonal fun of calabazas–pumpkins–along with feelings, family and science!

As the culmination of their unit on emotions, students are joined by family members to carve the pumpkins with faces expressing a wide variety of feelings.

Before carving, students and their families also have a chance to practice their investigative skills, measuring the height and circumference of the pumpkins.
