Fourth-graders in Zeo Tavarez’ Dual Language Program class at Edmund O’Neal School of Excellence paired up with kindergarteners in Kristie Rodriguez’ class Friday for their first session as reading buddies, and it went great.
The students got to know each other a bit, then older students read to younger ones. They talked about what they liked best about the book, and the kindergarteners drew a picture. The session went so well that both teachers plan to hold the sessions every two weeks!
Check out a Facebook photo album of the first meeting. (You don't need a Facebook account to see the photos linked in the highlighted text. A window may appear that says, "To see more from Albany City Schools on Facebook, log on or create an account,” but you can dismiss it by clicking “not now.”)
Students in both the Dual Language Program and Albany International Center will participate in a PTA-sponsored read-a-thon at their school in the coming weeks.
