Great literary and literal interpretations!

Three students dressed as idioms "Think outside the box," "Head in the clouds" and "Eyes in the back of my head"

It’s all about reading and language this week as Albany International Academy continues its celebration of Multilingual Literacy Week. And on Wednesday, Dual Language and Newcomer program students dressed either as their favorite book character or idiom.

Fave characters included Elephant and Piggie, Cat in the Hat and Dog Man, along with a variety of superheroes and royalty.

About those idioms … idioms are common phrases whose meaning as a whole differs from than the individual words in the phrase. Think, “It’s raining cats and dogs.” “Two peas in a pod.” “Think outside the box.”

When you’re an English language learner, understanding these phrases can be challenging. Student costumes gave their literal interpretation of some favorite idioms.
