Bringing history to life

Four students pose as historic figures

Talk about a living museum! Important figures from Hispanic, African American and women’s history came alive Thursday at a “wax” museum created by fifth-graders in Djemila Stevens’ Dual Language Program class at Albany International Academy.

Students chose a person they could relate to or look up to, and they spent weeks researching their lives and their accomplishments. Their work culminated in Thursday’s museum, where they portrayed their person of interest in both English and Spanish.

Luminaries ranged from Martin Luther King Jr. to Bad Bunny to Sonia Sotomayor – and many more.

Visitors had the opportunity to press a button, watch the student figures come to life and learn a bit more about these notable people!
