Saturday, Feb. 15 is National School Resource Officer Appreciation Day, and we wanted to take a few moments to thank our Albany Police Department partners for all that they do to build strong relationships with our students and help keep our schools safe.
The City School District of Albany currently has SROs assigned to Albany High School (Officer Nick Schuler), William S. Hackett Middle School (Office Nicole Reddix) and – new this month! – North Albany Middle School (Office Brian Mascaro).
While these officers are based at these three schools, they also respond to assist as needed district-wide.
The police department selects and trains officers to serve as SROs. They work together with our district’s safety team to address potential issues before they become problems, and respond when needed to help ensure safe and secure learning environments.
However, their daily work encompasses so much more.
They build positive relationships with students, employees, parents and guardians. They educate our school community on topics like drug awareness and cyber safety. They act as mentors and role models for students.
Our SROs are valuable partners in our school community and we are proud to recognize their important roles today and everyday!
