Giffen Memorial Elementary School was in lockout mode briefly as a precautionary measure Tuesday morning due to an Albany Police Department investigation in the community.
Giffen went into lockout at about 10:09 a.m. on the advice of the police, and returned to regular procedures at about 10:25 a.m., when the police notified the school that the investigation was over.
During a lockout, all doors leading outside are locked and secured. School continues as usual in classrooms. However, no one is allowed to enter or exit the building without first providing proper identification while the lockout is in place.
At no time Tuesday was the safety of our students or staff compromised. Giffen went into lockout mode as a precautionary measure at the advice of police and City School District of Albany security staff.
