District closed for Independence Day
Giffen Memorial Elementary School will shift to distance learning Thursday due to an unpleasant odor that is impacting large sections of the building.
The odor developed at school Wednesday. The source was a blocked grease trap in the plumbing system. The problem was repaired, and maintenance staff will continue working Thursday to rid the building of the smell.
Chromebook, meal pickup Thursday morning
Parents and guardians, email your child’s teacher if you need a Chromebook at home for virtual instruction. Devices will be available for parents and guardians to pick up at school from 9-10:30 a.m. Thursday. Meals for the day also will be available for pickup at school from 9-10:30 a.m.
Teachers will begin live instruction via Google Classroom at 11 a.m. Your child’s teacher will have more information about the full instructional schedule for the day in their Google Classroom.
Remember that your child should use their district login credentials to access Google Classroom. Please contact your child’s teacher if you need help with that.
