Ice cream parlor math!

A boy and a girl wearing paper hats work on a math problem together

Michelle Graham transformed her second-grade classroom at Giffen Memorial Elementary School into an ice cream parlor on Friday, and her scholars became entrepreneurs who solved math problems as they managed money in their own ice cream businesses.

Take a look at some photos from our Facebook page to see the class at work. (You don't need a Facebook account to see the photos linked in the highlighted text. A window may appear that says, "To see more from Albany City Schools on Facebook, log on or create an account,” but you can dismiss it by clicking “not now.”)

Students spent time at six different ice-cream-themed stations, each with a different math challenge involving different denominations of coins and bills.

Once they solved all the problems before them, scholars were able to make and eat ice cream sundaes!
