Book Bonanza for young readers

Boy reads a book

Thanks to our wonderful community partners, every student in kindergarten through grade 2 at Giffen Elementary School got a brand-new book on Friday.

The “Book Bonanza” was coordinated by Wizard’s Wardrobe and underwritten by First New York Federal Credit Union. They bought the books at discount from The Book House in Stuyvesant Plaza.

They’re not just any books. Giffen Instructional Coach Dawn Castle reviewed several books and suggested titles that were appropriate for a range of students’ abilities. Volunteers delivered the books to school Friday, and teachers either selected the books with a student mind or the students chose their own.

We LOVE our community partners!

Take a look at some photos from the Book Bonanza. (You don't need a Facebook account to see the pictures linked in the highlighted text. A window may appear that says, "To see more from Albany City Schools on Facebook, log on or create an account,” but you can dismiss it by clicking “not now.”)
