Getting back to nature

Two girls and two boys mold mulch balls under the guidance of an adult

It’s always a great day to visit the Radix Ecological Sustainability Center!

On Thursday, kindergartners in Carmella Moore and Christine Harkavy’s class at Giffen Memorial Elementary School got their hands delightfully dirty at the Radix Center while they learned about how worms, mulch, composting, chickens, beetles and even poop have important roles to play in our environment.

The class also also dodged a few raindrops!

Thanks to a My Brother’s Keeper grant, all kindergartners and first graders at Giffen and Sheridan Preparatory Academy took or will take field trips to Radix before school ends.

Check out a Facebook photo album from Thursday’s field trip. (You don't need a Facebook account to see the pictures linked in the highlighted text. A window may appear that says, "To see more from Albany City Schools on Facebook, log on or create an account,” but you can dismiss it by clicking “not now.”)
