William S. Hackett Middle School implemented lockout procedures as a precautionary measure Tuesday morning after the school received a threatening phone call.
Hackett went into lockout shortly after the call came in at about 9:30 a.m. The school contacted the Albany Police Department immediately, and the investigation is ongoing. Hackett lifted its lockout procedures at 10:20 a.m.
The school day is continuing on the normal schedule, with additional security and police support in the building and on campus. Non-school personnel will not be allowed into the building for the remainder of the school day. School staff will be available to greet parents and guardians at the main entrance should you need to pick up your student before the end of the school day.
As a result of this security matter, Hackett has cancelled COVID-19 test kit pickup that had been scheduled during the school day Tuesday. Parents and guardians of Hackett students will be able to pick up test kits at the building from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday, and for the rest of the week at the times communicated previously.
