Shortly after 8 a.m. Friday, students at William S. Hackett Middle School reported to school officials that a threat to the building was circulating on Snapchat.
The threat indicated that a person with a gun was planning to come to the school at 10 a.m. Friday.
School officials immediately informed the Albany Police Department after the students reported this message. Police have advised that the threat is not credible and is unfounded.
Hackett is continuing with its regular schedule Friday morning. Police continue to investigate this matter and will provide an additional presence at school Friday as a precaution. Our school's social-emotional support team also is available for any students who would like to talk with them.
We commend the students who brought this information to our attention immediately Friday morning. Please remember that if you see or hear anything that makes you feel unsafe or uncomfortable, report the information to a school official right away.
