Brain power hummed in the William S. Hackett Middle School library on Tuesday, as students behind the top 24 experiments from their sixth- and seventh-grade science classes competed in the school’s Science Symposium.
Topics included “The Five Second Rule Theory,” “Which Water Fountain Has the Most Bacteria,” and “Lead is Lurking: The Presence of Lead in the Soil at Urban vs. Suburban Parks.”
The top six projects were:
- “Perfect Cookie” by Giuliana Gaspary and Nikol Gjoka
- “Growing Worms” by Zoe Zylberman-Reid
- “Which Medium Grows the Best Cat Grass?” by Sarah Kirk, Emma Dalland and Emma Carlson
- “Lead is Lurking” by Norah Sweet, Kamryn Werts and Maya Chittur
- “Baking Powder Bakery” by Jolie Benjamin
- “Which Water Freezes the Fastest?” by Charlotte Plantania
The top six projects will advance to competition in the citywide Joseph Henry Science Fair on May 19 at The College of Saint Rose.
