Weekly update from Principal Paolino

Last week was particularly busy as we were completely immersed in testing and make-up sessions. We are progressing right along as New York State ELA, Math and Science written testing are complete, leaving the remainder of NYSESLAT as well as upcoming Regents in June. We tip our hats to these outstanding students as they continue to prepare and persevere through the challenging assessment period. I hope they will continue to push forward and believe in themselves and their abilities!

Speaking of outstanding, if you attended the Spring Concert and Art Show on May 14, you witnessed some of the best young musicians and talented artists Hackett has to offer. Congratulations to all our students and teachers for an amazing Spring Concert.

There will be no school tomorrow, May 21, as we hold the School Budget Vote. This is your opportunity to justify the collection and expenditure of public funds by casting your vote. I encourage you to let your voice be heard.

Please note, fourth-quarter interims close on May 17 and fourth-quarter grades close for the year on June 14. As a reminder, students are responsible for any missed work during their absence(s), as this will affect their grades. At this time of year, fourth-quarter averages play a critical role in whether your child passes to the next grade. Parents of eighth-grade students, please be aware of the requirements regarding the Moving-Up Ceremony scheduled for Wednesday, June 26 at 9 a.m. Students eligible to participate must pass ALL their subjects as well as be in good behavioral standing. Mandatory moving-up rehearsals will be held on Monday, June 24 and Tuesday, June 25.

The Eighth-Grade Dance for the Class of 2024 will be held on Friday, June 21 from 6-9 p.m. in the Hackett Middle School grand foyer. [Please note! This is a change from the time reported in our recent newsletter. Again, the correct time is 6-9 p.m.] The dance is a semiformal affair and students should dress appropriately. More information and the permission slip will be made available as we get closer to this event. Students must meet academic and behavioral requirements to participate.

Very little time is left to purchase a 2023-24 yearbook! If you haven't ordered yours online yet, visit www.treering.com. Once at the website, please use the following code for Hackett: 1016488352114359. The cost for this year’s yearbook is $25. There will be no extra yearbooks available for purchase at the end of the school year, so please order yours today!

For the remainder of this school year, all Hackett visitors will be required to check in through our online security system and then proceed through security before entering the building any further. All visitors will be required to provide acceptable ID to be scanned. This process should move quickly; however, we recommend that visitors arrive a few minutes early to events and have valid ID readily available. Thank you for your assistance and support as we work together to create a safe school environment.

... and that was the week that was!
