The following is an important message from Cecily Wilson-Turner, Ed.D., the district's Assistant Superintendent for Elementary Instruction:
I am writing to inform you of an unfortunate situation that occurred Thursday morning during drop-off at Montessori Magnet School that your student may have witnessed.
A community member came on school property, near the bus lane on Tremont Street, and proceeded to yell at students, employees and families. Montessori staff immediately called the Albany Police Department and told the man to leave. The man continued his erratic behavior on the Austain Avenue side of the building. His actions resulted in a physical altercation with a Montessori parent in the Westland Hills parking lot. The police are continuing to investigate this incident.
Out of an abundance of caution, we are keeping students inside for recess and gym Thursday, and City School District of Albany security staff and law enforcement representatives will be at school in the afternoon for dismissal.
