The following message is from Stephen and Harriet Myers Principal Andrea Piper:
I am writing to let you know about steps we are taking beginning this week to work with all of our CDTA-eligible students to address expectations when riding CDTA to and from school each day.
On Thursday, March 5, our school staff partnered with representatives from CDTA and the City School District of Albany Transportation Department and held town hall meetings during our lunch periods to remind students of the following expectations when riding CDTA:
- All students must have their school ID badge in order to ride CDTA buses.
- Beginning Wednesday, March 11, students without their school ID badge will be allowed to ride the bus only with administrator permission.
- Beginning Monday, March 16, students without their school ID badge will not be allowed to ride a CDTA bus. There will be no exceptions.
- If your student has lost their school ID badge, a replacement may be purchased at school for $5. If this causes a hardship for your family, please contact Home School Coordinator Joe Burke for assistance.
- Student behavior on CDTA buses. These expectations will take effect immediately.
- The first time we receive a report of a student’s inappropriate behavior, Mr. Burke will meet with the student to reteach CDTA expectations and place a call to the parent or guardian.
- The second time we receive a report of a student’s inappropriate behavior, Mr. Burke will meet with the student to reteach CDTA expectations, assign the student to after-school detention and place a call to the parent or guardian.
- The third time we receive a report of a student’s inappropriate behavior, we will suspend the student from CDTA. Mr. Burke also will meet with the student to reteach CDTA expectations and place a call to the parent or guardian.
- If the reported student behavior is egregious, we may suspend the student from CDTA immediately even if it is a first or second report of inappropriate behavior.
The safety and security of all of our students at Stephen and Harriet Myers Middle School and throughout the district is a top priority. If you have questions about these expectations, please contact me at (518) 475-6425.
