Invasive Species Workshop at Transition Camp

Students identify plants in the Myers garden.

Incoming sixth-graders at Stephen and Harriet Myers Middle School received an introduction to a highlight in the building – The Vegetable Project!

During Transition Camp on Wednesday, the gardening organization led an invasive species workshop. The two-day science lesson aims to pique interest in the environment, create awareness around invasive species and, of course, encourage the students to join the popular gardening club and pursue outside learning opportunities once school begins in September.

The student-scientists identified Purple Loosestrife, Phragmites, Emerald Ash Borers, Queen Anne’s Lace and Oriental Bittersweet on the Myers campus.
