Coding art in science

A student places a robot on a piece of paper for a coding lab.

A toy popularized in the 1960s is resurfacing – albeit in a different form – in our 2024 science classes!

Before break, Cheryl Backman’s students embarked on a Sphero journey. The sixth graders attached markers to programmable robots which, based on each student’s individual code, created unique art!

The necessary adjustments were not mistakes but rather part of the learning process and led to important code adjustments.

The final Sphero result resembles the Spirograph toy’s geometric drawings that produced mathematical curves.
