New Scotland Elementary School embraced student voices on Wednesday as it celebrated a moving-up ceremony for 81 fifth-graders.
Student speakers Emilia Eng, Miles Little and Salih Mujic were chosen by their peers to give addresses at the ceremony, and they fondly recalled their times at school and praised the support they received over the years. They and their classmates received moving-up certificates from their teachers: Sue Gray, Liz Keller, Kateri Rusinovich and Colleen Ryan.
After the ceremony, the new middle-schoolers marched around the school building and were applauded and cheered for by students in younger grades.
