School expectations update

The following message is from North Albany Middle School Principal Andrea Piper.

Dear Families,

Thank you for partnering with North Albany Middle School to reset our expectations and non-negotiables as outlined in our March 3 letter to you. We continue to struggle with some issues, and we are reminding you of these rules that are in effect.

First, face masks that cover a student’s entire face are not allowed. We support our students who choose to wear a face mask, but the mask must cover the nose and mouth only. Any full-face mask will be confiscated, and the student will be provided with a disposable mask.

Second, several students are arriving late to school after stopping at a local convenience store. Any students who arrive late will be marked as tardy.

Third, any snacks, sports drinks or soda that students bring to school will be confiscated and returned to students at the end of the day. Snacks purchased for lunch will be returned to students at lunchtime. The only bottled beverage allowed is water, and it must be in a clear container.

Fourth, students are not allowed to eat during class. This disrupts valuable learning time and will not be tolerated. The only exceptions are grab-and-go breakfast in the classroom during first period and lunch in the classroom.

We are instituting these practices to ensure that our students are on time for school and focused on their education. Parents and guardians, please continue reinforcing these rules and expectations at home. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact school to set up an in-person appointment with you, your child and an administrator.
