Staggered return to North Albany Middle School

City School District of Albany tree logo.

The following is an important message from North Albany Middle School Principal Andrea Piper:

Staggered in-person instruction will return at North Albany Middle School beginning Thursday. Please review this information so that we may work together to ensure a safe learning environment for all of our students and staff.

  •  Parents and guardians are allowed in the building by appointment only
  •  Building access for each student’s family is limited to two people and both must be listed in SchoolTool as a parent or guardian
  •  Between 2-3 p.m., students will not be dismissed from school unless it is an emergency situation. We encourage our families to schedule doctor’s appointments and other non-urgent appointments outside of these times as it impacts dismissal
  • We will use our intercom to communicate with visitors outside the building. A staff member will bring a sign-out sheet when a parent or guardian is picking up a student early at school (before 2 p.m.)
  • Students serving a suspension are not allowed on school grounds
  • Student IDs are required to enter the building and will be scanned
  • We will continue to follow all guidelines in our Student Code of Conduct regarding behavioral expectations

As a reminder, our staggered return to in-person attendance begins Thursday with sixth grade only. Here is our schedule for all grades returning in-person over the next few school days:

  • Thursday - Grade 6 in-person (classroom pods); grades 7-8 virtual
  • Friday - Grades 6-7 in-person (classroom pods); grade 8 virtual
  • Monday - All students in-person (classroom pods)

Students assigned to distance learning Thursday and Friday will have asynchronous lessons in ninth period. The asynchronous periods this week will allow faculty and staff to participate in professional development sessions designed to help support students’ social-emotional needs.

As a reminder, all City School District of Albany students are off next Tuesday, May 17, for a staff professional development day. All North Albany students will return to in-person instruction next Wednesday, May 18, and will follow a regular academic schedule. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at (518) 475-6800 or apiper@albany.k12.ny.us.
