This week our orchestra composed their own musical piece, with a little help from the Albany Symphony Orchestra (ASO).
Guest artist and composer Harriet Steinke, along with two ASO strings musicians, joined Caitlin Lenio’s students for a hands-on session that discussed the role of a composer, demonstration of Steinke’s original work and, also, the young musicians ultimately were able to create (and play) an original arrangement.
The unique lesson was a wonderful way for students to learn about career opportunities in music, play alongside professional musicians and, also, helped them to realize that the people who write the music they play aren’t just names in a concert program or at the top of their music sheets.
Thanks to Albany Fund for Education for bringing this wonderful experience to our students!
