Locker clean out June 1-3

Locker clean out June 1-3

The following message is from Edmund J. O'Neal Middle School of Excellence Principal David Bernsley. It also was mailed home as a letter to families.

Dear Parents and Caregivers:

I hope this letter finds you and your family well. I am writing because the rapid closure of schools due to COVID-19 health concerns did not allow time for our students to collect personal items left at Edmund J. O’Neal Middle School of Excellence. Therefore, we have created a schedule for students to clean out their lockers and return school-issued supplies such as textbooks in a safe and orderly fashion.

We plan to utilize three days -- Monday, June 1-Wednesday, June 3 -- to accomplish this task. Students will have access on a specific day based on their grade and last name. Any family needing to make other arrangements should contact Mr. Bernsley at either dbernsley@albany.k12.ny.us or (518) 407-3419.

June 1: All grade 6 students
8:30-11 a.m.:     Last name A-L
11:30 a.m.- 2 p.m.:     Last Name M-Z

June 2: All grade 7 students
8:30-11 a.m.:     Last name A-L
11:30 a.m.- 2 p.m.:     Last Name M-Z

June 3: All grade 8 students
8:30-11 a.m.:     Last name A-L
11:30 a.m.- 2 p.m.:     Last Name M-Z

Building administrators and security monitors will be present in the building each day to help.

All students should enter the building through the front door, and they must be wearing a facemask (homemade ones are acceptable). The school will supply facemasks to any student without one. For health and safety reasons, students should stay 6 feet away from others and avoid interacting with their friends.

For those same health and safety reasons, parents and guardians should not enter the school with their students. The exception is parents and guardians who have arranged with the school nurse to pick up medicine.

Locker cleanout
Students will go to their lockers to retrieve their belongings, textbooks and library books.

Art project pickup and musical instrument drop-off
Art projects will be placed on tables inside the cafeteria. Students should drop off musical instruments in the main office.

Medicine in nurse’s office
The school nurse will contact parents and guardians of students who store medicine in the nurse’s office to coordinate the return of those items.

I appreciate your cooperation during this process. If you have any questions, please contact me.
