The following message is from Pine Hills Elementary School Principal Tia Corniel:
I am writing to let you know about a safety concern that came to our attention during the school day Tuesday.
One of our staff members became aware of a hand-written list of individuals that a student may have intended to harm. I immediately began an investigation and called the City School District of Albany’s threat assessment team to our building. We also notified law enforcement officials.
Our investigation has determined that there was no immediate threat Tuesday to any of the individuals on the list. This remains an ongoing investigation, and we will continue to work together with law enforcement officials on this matter.
We have taken appropriate disciplinary steps in accordance with our Student Code of Conduct.
Safety is a priority for all of us at Pine Hills and throughout our school district.
I would like to commend the actions of our staff member who brought this matter to my attention immediately. We also want to emphasize that our students are safe and supported in reporting any information that makes them feel unsafe or or uncomfortable. This includes any information, pictures or video they see in social media.
We ask that you remind your children that if they see something, they should tell a trusted adult immediately. Your partnership is critically important to all that we do each day to provide a safe learning environment for everyone in our school community.
