The following message is from Sheridan Preparatory Academy Principal Tina Marie Cascone:
Dear Families:
I am writing to let you know that we discovered bed bugs on individuals in three of our classrooms recently. These occurrences were in a kindergarten classroom, a first-grade classroom and a second-grade classroom. Our maintenance staff followed all of our disinfecting procedures in these rooms, and a pest-control company also conducted a thorough inspection of all three rooms. No additional bugs have been found, and we will continue to monitor the classrooms.
It’s possible to pick up bed bugs almost anyplace. They infest offices, stores, hotels, gyms and countless other places. A bed bug infestation has nothing to do with cleanliness – you can pick them up in the finest hotels, and they can hitchhike into the cleanest homes at any time. You can help reduce your chances of an infestation by catching them early.
Please visit the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency website for helpful information on how to check for bed bugs at home.
If a student is discovered to have live bed bugs on their person in school, they will remain in school and we will contact the parent or guardian to make you aware.
Please be assured that Sheridan Preparatory Academy will take every measure possible to promote a healthy school environment for all of our students. Please feel free to call me with any questions or concerns at (518) 475-6850.
