Construction workers conducted an asbestos abatement project in second-level bathrooms at Thomas O’Brien Academy of Science and Technology over the weekend as part of the ongoing renovation of that space. This abatement project began after the end of the school day Friday and was completed Sunday.
Ambient Environmental Inc., an independent firm that specializes in asbestos abatement, monitored this work for compliance. The cleaning and testing procedures Ambient Environmental followed were in accordance with New York State Industrial Code Rule 56, which regulates asbestos abatement projects.
Testing and air monitoring results over the weekend confirmed that the abatement project was completed in accordance with all applicable regulations, and we can continue with normal use of this part of the building.
This work over the weekend was the completion of the abatement project that was conducted in those bathroom spaces during spring break. The bathrooms have remained sealed off throughout this time and will continue to be sealed off while the renovation project continues.
The full renovation of those bathrooms is scheduled for completion this summer.
