Reading buddies ... and more!

Younger student points to picture in book older student reads

Every Tuesday, eighth graders from Cindy Moorcroft’s class at William S. Hackett Middle School stroll across the street to Thomas O'Brien Academy of Science and Technology (TOAST), where they meet up with kindergarteners and first graders from Jill’s Flood’s class.

They’re called “reading buddies,” and read they do. But the weekly visits also give students in both classes a chance to practice their social skills and share an activity. Older students might teach younger students a new subject (on Tuesday, the little ones learned all about mazes).

It’s a time that both groups look forward to each week!
